The difference between searching and filtering:

Both apply queries on the data. The difference is that searching uses these formulas to fetch new data, while filtering limits all data access.

Example filters on the African countries vectorlayer
Filter	Show only OPEC countries
Filter	Filter out middle Africa
No filter	Remove filters

It's best to zoom out to the whole of Africa to view the effects of the filters.

Open the search panel to start a search operation.
